Vintage 1900 Walnut Picking Basket Salt Shakers Melissa and Emily ElsenThe simple wooden slats and a sturdy arched handle of this century old basket has a practical form that was used along the shore for gathering mussels and oysters and inland for harvesting walnuts. The open slatted construction kept the load ventilated while the curved handle allowed for long days of carrying. Its straightforward structure and timeworn surface reflect everyday work from both coastal and rural settings.
