An ovular shaped medallion encompassed by rays constructed of gilded bronze, the obverse centre bears the cipher F encompassed by a border with the inscription HERZOG VON ANHALT, the reverse bears FR WISSENSCHAFT UND KUNST encompassed by an open ended wreath tied with a ribbon at the bottom, with crown suspension, measuring 33. 76 mm (w) x 49. 38 mm (h), with green and crimson
